RESEÑA LIBRO/BOOK REVIEW: CROCHET MASTER CLASS P3

We meet once again on the blog! It is with great joy that I bring you the last part of the review of this entertaining crochet book ,and the good news is that I will start writing my blog in English too 🙂 Sorry for the first two parts of the review that are only in Spanish (maybe your google browser can translate the website if you are interested in reading them).
Well, this book has been a revelation for me, it has opened my perspective and opened my mind to understand how wonderful and dynamic crochet is. Well, let’s get down to business!

BEAD CROCHET

Bead crochet is an exciting methd of crochetig with yarn or thread in which beads are added as you crochet. You can string the beads onto the yarns/thread before starting to crochet or while crocheting. There are a several special stitches used in bead crochet, such as the bead chain, bead loop, and bead single crochet. The bead generally fall to back of the stitches, but they can also be oriented on the front of the stitches with minor changes. Beads can be added one at a time or in groups, such as in a bead loop.

BEAD

CRYSTALISE NECKLACE by Lydia Borin

Early examples of bead crochet include nineteenth century miser’s purses. By the 1920s bead crochet technique also made necklace ropes, bracelets, and beaded bags.

I love the versality of working with the bead crochet. Once you learn the tecnique, there is so much you can do, even add bead on fabrics while you crochet and I recently had the opportunity to work on a Christmas project with beads.

Have you ever heard about this technique? I have not.
I was very impressed when I learned it, really. Bruges can be translated as «witches» in the Danish language, so I guess its provenance comes from there. And you have to do magic to create designs like those!

Bruges crochet was originally developed as a method of imitating expensive antique bobbin lace. Bobbin lace needs equipement such a wooden bobbins, special round pillow, thin metal pins, complex paper patterns, and lenghty training and experience to produce profesional results. The original Bruges style of true bobbin lace invloved creating braids, motifs, and net patterns and joining tehm to create a specific design.

Crocheted Briges lace resemble the original Bruges bobbin lace, incorporating the same design elements, but it is made with a crochet hook. The braid that is such an important part of the lace is crocheted along with the connecting links that give it the desired shape.
An important advantage of crocheted bruges lace over every other kind of handmade lace is that a large piece can be assembled out of small pieces, which can be worked separetely. Many crochet historians have resercheaded the history of bruges crochet lace, but no written records of its existence have been found before 1930, though the skill may have been handed down from crocheter to crocheter long before that date.
Traditionally, crocheted bruges lace has been made with both cotton and linen threads in white, but today’s designers are experimenting with new yarns and new colors combinations.

PAINTED CROCHET

Painted crochet is a term that describes a technique used to produce gradual or dramatic color changing by using three held together and varyng the color combinations. It is usually done with fine threads, such as sewing threads.

For the most dramatic results, four color are used, and three spools of each color are required. The three strands are held together at all times. Thread designed for hand or machine sewing is usually used bacause of the size and wide spectrum of colors available.
Detailed instructions for working on Painted crochet appear in the book. I had never really heard of this method, but at first glance it seems to me to be something very interesting and similar to the -fade- where a color degradation is also created. What do you think?

FREE FROM CROCHET

Free form crochet is the term used to describe a type of crochet that is worked without a pattern, created in the designer’s mind as it is worked. free formers like to think of it like painting, where, as they explain it, «the hook’s mind is a brush and the yarn is paint»

British crochet designers and teachers James Walters and Sylivia Cosh are credited with introducting the art of free form to the world. For more than twenty-three years until Sylvia died in 2000, the duo conducted crochet workshops all over the world, explaining their theories and concepts.
They used the terms «scrumbling», which meant making things up as you go along, to explain their concept of free-form crochet. As a different artists have developed different techniques and philosophies over the years, the one factor that has remained is that there no rules. The crocheter needs no pattern but merely starts with a hook and some thread and creates her own «scrumble» and her own fabric.
Such a beautiful technique that I love and I learned from the hand of @ofmars. I think the free form is a very dynamic form of expression in crochet, and it can be as entertaining as you want. As long as you are not scared crocheting without rules hahaha
I think that if you are obsessed with order, structure and symmetries, you will not like this technique very much since symmetries do not exist here!

IRISH CROCHET

Our latest technique exposed in this wonderful book!

Because Irish crochet is made up of many small motifs, the crocheter’s individuality is showcased in the way she or he chooses to compose the design. Unlike ordinary crochet where the work moves along in rows or rounds, one worked upon the other with carefully counted stitches, in Irish crochet, separate motifs are joined either by mesh or crocheted bars.

The motifs-sprays, flowers, shamrocks and vines, are worked over a foundation cord. Usually a corder padding is used. The pieces filled with bars of crochet. The crocheter is free  to adjust the numbers of stitches because the pattern is meant merely as an idea, leaving much to the skill of the crocheter. No two people working the same motif will necessarily turn out the same result

Well, so far the review of this great book that without a doubt, I will keep as one of my most precious treasures. There are several projects in this book that I have on my «to crochet» list.
In this book, as I mentioned before, you will find all the necessary instructions, diagrams, photos, tutorial schemes to learn how to make the stitches and many tips from the designers who explain theirs techniques. Remember that I took directly from the book some of the explanations of the techniques that appear in this blog, and there were others in which I had to research to bring real facts hahahha since there were many techniques that I did not know.

I’m sure if you buy it, you won’t regret it

Thanks for joining me on this journey! Let me know in the comments if you think this review useful (so I can think about bringing more). Tell me by what name these techniques are known in your family, or if you crochet any of them.
Love, Yessabett.
