My latest contribution, this time for I Like Crochet, is out!
I’m very happy to introduce this new design, featuring one of my favorite techniques: Aran crochet.
In this blog post, I’ll be telling you about this pattern, how you can access it (and it includes a limited free version!!). I’ll also be sharing more about Aran crochet and much more. Welcome once again.
Cómo comenzó todo…
Siempre se comienza con nuevas posibilidades y oportunidades. A menudo voy desarrollando nuevas ideas de diseño pero muchas quedan en el tintero por diversas razones, y esta versión era una de ellas. Cuando salió el llamado pensé al instante hacer ese diseño, con cables y puntos en relieve que tanto me gustan tejer, así que comencé a hacer varias muestras, en diferentes grosores y fibras hasta que dí con la adecuada.
Lo siguiente fue comenzar a idear la propuesta con el número de tallas, la forma en que se tejería y todos los detalles de la prenda y enviarlo.
Cuando me avisaron que les gustaría trabajar con mi diseño estaba tan contenta!
How it all began…
Everything always starts with new possibilities and opportunities. I often develop new design ideas, but many of them stay on hold for different reasons, and this version was one of those. When the call came out, I immediately thought of making that design, with the cables and textured stitches I love to crochet so much. So I began working on several swatches, in different yarn weights and fibers, until I found the right one.
Next came the process of shaping the proposal: deciding on the number of sizes, how the garment would be constructed, and all the design details, and then submitting it.
When I was told they’d like to work with my design, I was so happy!
El material
Esto fue toda una aventura, porque el material inicial era otro y que por motivos de fuerza mayor no logró llegar a tiempo (llegó casi 1mes y medio después! las integrantes de mi canal de difusión en ig saben de qué hablo). Estaba un tanto desesperada pensando qué hacer y por suerte los amigos de Revesderecho me salvaron! Así que terminé utilizando baby soft que tiene una suavidad maravillosa a pesar de ser acrílico.
Una vez que lo terminé se fue volando (literalmente) al otro lado del mundo.
The yarn
This part was quite an adventure. The original yarn choice was different, but due to circumstances beyond control, it didn’t arrive on time (it showed up almost a month and a half later! Those in my Instagram group know what I’m talking about). I was a bit desperate, trying to figure out what to do, and thankfully my friends at Revesderecho saved the day! I ended up using Baby Soft, which has a wonderful softness despite being acrylic.
Once finished, the piece flew (literally) to the other side of the world.
Arán Crochet
Este diseño tiene algo de esta hermosa técnica.
El término Aran proviene de las Islas Aran (Irlanda) y está históricamente ligado al tejido a dos agujas, no al crochet.
Los Aran sweaters tradicionales se caracterizan por tener texturas muy marcadas y relieves profundos con motivos como: Cables (trenzas), diamantes, etc. Eran tejidos densos, funcionales, pensados para el frío y el trabajo al aire libre. Cada motivo tenía un simbolismo (protección, abundancia, caminos, etc.), aunque hoy eso se mira con más distancia histórica.
Hoy se usa Aran crochet para describir diseños a crochet que emulan el lenguaje visual del Aran knitting, es decir: tejidos con mucha textura, que tienen relieves ( a menudo cableado), repetición de motivos y que dan una sensación de “arquitectura” del tejido.
Los patrones Aran también están visualmente emparentados con el arte celta tradicional —especialmente en el uso de trenzas, simetrías y geometrías repetitivas— aunque gran parte del simbolismo atribuido a estos motivos fue sistematizado en el siglo XX
Las puntadas utilizadas a menudo aquí son:
Puntos en relieve que son los que forman estos «cables» a crochet.
Puntos con textura como punto pop corn, puff, piña, etc.
No es copia literal, sino una «traducción» del lenguaje Aran al crochet.
Aran Crochet
This designs has something of this technique.
The term Aran comes from the Aran Islands (Ireland) and is historically linked to knitting, not crochet.
Traditional Aran sweaters are characterized by highly textured surfaces and deep relief, featuring motifs such as cables, diamonds, and more. They were dense, functional garments, designed for cold weather and outdoor work. Each motif carried symbolic meaning (protection, abundance, paths, etc.), although today this symbolism is viewed with more historical distance.
Today, Aran crochet is used to describe crochet designs that emulate the visual language of Aran knitting, that is, highly textured fabrics with relief (often cable-like), repeated motifs.
Aran patterns are also visually related to traditional Celtic art, especially through the use of braids, symmetry, and repetitive geometry, although much of the symbolism attributed to these motifs was systematized in the 20th century.
The stitches often used include:
- Relief stitches, which are what form these crochet “cables” (FP-BP sts)
- Textured stitches such as popcorn, puff, cluster and more
It is not a literal copy, but rather a translation of the Aran language into crochet.
El diseño
El cárdigan Pink Twits está tejido a crochet en un suave color rosado, con baby soft de revesderecho en grosor sport. Este crop cárdigan presenta un trabajo de cableado bellamente dispuesto en toda la parte frontal, creando un diseño rico en textura que resulta a la vez acogedor y elegante. Su silueta cropped, muy favorecedora, lo hace perfecto para superponerlo sobre vestidos, faldas o jeans de tiro alto, mientras que los detalles clásicos de trenzas le otorgan un aire atemporal y sofisticado.
Está tejido de abajo hacia arriba, en plano. El diseño de cables aparece únicamente en la parte frontal del cárdigan; la espalda, en cambio, se trabaja solo con puntos básicos, como puntos altos y puntos bajos, sin cableado.
The design
Pink Twits cardigan was crocheted in a soft baby pink in sport weight yarn. This cropped cardigan features beautifully intricate cabling throughout, creating a rich, tactile design that’s both cozy and elegant. Its flattering cropped silhouette makes it perfect for layering over dresses, skirts or high-waisted jeans, while the classic cable details give it a timeless, sophisticated look.
It’s worked from the bottom up, flat.The cable design appears only on the front part of the cardigan; the back section features only basic stitches, such as double crochet and single crochet, with no cables.
